Christmas Decor Tips
Christmas is my favorite time of year - I love creating a magical ambience to enjoy throughout the holiday season. A crackling fire, the smell of baking and sweet spices, candlelight and the glow of the tree will surely take the chill off any winter night!
Although red and green or silver and gold are the more traditional christmas colors, one is certainly not limited to these for decorations. These days you can find ornaments and ribbon in just about any color, and some lovely effects can be created by coordinating your christmas decor to the colors of your home. Another option is to choose a special color or theme (rustic, victorian, modern) that is carried through all your decorations.
I like to arrange holiday items in amongst the regular everyday decor - tucking in festive accents to plants or shelf arrangements, or replacing something with a similar-sized Christmas piece in the same location. This helps blend everything together visually.
Another important tip is to try to use groupings rather than scattering individual items all over the place. We can quickly run out of horizontal surfaces to place things and can end up with a cluttered, messy look that can be distracting. By creating vignettes using different sizes, shapes and textures, your eye will have somewhere specific to focus. This is also a great way to feature smaller treasures that might otherwise be missed on their own.
